Terms
Last updated: 6 November 2026
The short version: Unwrap is free to scan. Supporter subscriptions are optional, every price unlocks the same features, and you can cancel any time in your phone's store settings. The score tells you how processed a food is from what's printed on the label. It isn't medical, diet or allergy advice, so always check the pack.
Who I am
Unwrap is made and run by me, Edward Barnes (Eddy), an independent developer in the UK. These terms are between you and me. They cover the Unwrap app on iPhone and Android and this website.

Using Unwrap
- You can scan as a guest, without an account. A free account syncs your history and unlocks swaps and alternatives.
- Unwrap isn't aimed at children under 13. If you're under 18, check with a parent or carer before subscribing.
- Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You're responsible for what happens on your account.
What the score is, and what it isn't
The score runs from 1.0 to 10.0 and measures how processed a food is, based on the ingredients printed on its label. It is not a health score. It doesn't tell you whether a food is right for you.
- Unwrap gives general information. It isn't medical, nutritional or dietary advice. If you have a health condition, talk to a doctor or dietitian.
- Allergies: product data can be out of date or wrong, and recipes change. Always read the label on the pack in front of you. Never rely on Unwrap alone to avoid an allergen.
- Product information comes from manufacturers' labels, from Open Food Facts and from people who use Unwrap. I check what I can, but I can't promise every entry is complete or correct. If you spot a mistake, report it in the app and I'll fix it.
How the score works, and why, is explained on the Evidence & approach page.
Supporter subscriptions
- Supporter is a monthly subscription on a sliding scale, from £0.99 to £4.99 a month. Every price unlocks exactly the same features. You choose what works for you.
- You buy and pay through the App Store or Google Play. Their terms apply to the payment. I never see your payment details.
- It renews each month until you cancel. To cancel on iPhone, go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions. On Android, go to Google Play → Profile → Payments and subscriptions. You keep Supporter features until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own process. If something's gone wrong, email me as well and I'll help however I can.
- If a price changes, the store will tell you before it applies, and you can cancel before then.
Tips
Tips are one-off payments that say thank you. They don't unlock any features. They're paid through the App Store or Google Play, and any refund goes through their process.
Things you add
If you add a product, submit a label photo or send a report, you still own it. You give me permission to use, edit and show it in Unwrap, so the shared product database stays useful for everyone.
- Only submit photos you took yourself, of the product and its label. Keep people out of them.
- Don't submit anything false, offensive or copied from someone else.
- I review contributions, and I may edit, decline or remove them.
Fair use
Please don't misuse Unwrap. That means:
- Don't try to break or overload it.
- Don't scrape or bulk-copy the database.
- Don't use it to harass anyone.
- Don't use it to pass off its content as your own.
Open product data from Open Food Facts stays available under its own open licence.
If things change
- I'll keep improving Unwrap, which means features will change over time.
- If I ever have to close the app, I'll give you notice and stop subscriptions from renewing.
- You can stop using Unwrap whenever you like. You can delete your account in the app under Profile → delete account.
- I may suspend an account that breaks these terms. I'll tell you why unless the law stops me.
Responsibility
I'm responsible for losses you suffer that are a foreseeable result of me breaking these terms or not taking reasonable care. I'm not responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, or for business losses: Unwrap is for personal use.
Nothing here limits your legal rights as a consumer. Nothing here limits liability where the law doesn't allow it, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
The legal bits
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim there. If you live in the EU, you keep the consumer protections of the country you live in.
If you got Unwrap from the App Store, Apple's standard licence terms also apply to the app itself.
Before doing anything formal, please email me. Most things get sorted quickly that way.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change in a way that matters, I'll say so in the app or by email before the change applies.
